Prices depart downward in September

Dropping prices and holiday homes (-40.6%, 3.1% a year), package holidays (-22.5% +2.7% over one year), hotels including pension (-1.7% +1.6% over one year) and air transport (-8.0% +1.5% over one year). But with the new school, education services were more expensive (+2.6% +4.3% over one year) and meals in the canteens or university (1.0% +2, 7% a year).

New cars cheaper

Prices of manufactured goods increasing by 0.3% in September (-0.1% yoy). This increase is related to purposes of promotions. It is significantly less than last year (+1.0%), first as a sales period did this year, not spilled over into the month of August and on the other hand, Due to the sharp drop in new car prices (-1.9% after -0.6% in August 2009, -2.5% a year).Prices of clothing, shoes for their increase of 2.6% (+4.9% in September 2008; 1.4% a year).

Rising food, decreased energy

The food is increasing by 0.5% in September (-0.3% yoy). This reflects the seasonal increase in fresh food prices, rising sharply after several months of decline: 4.6% (1.4% in September 2008, -6.7% a year). Fresh vegetables are experiencing strong growth (+5.7%) and fresh fruit by 4.4%. By contrast, prices of other foods decreased (-0.1% 0.6% yoy), due to great deals on meat (-0.2%) and further declines in milk products ( -0.2% -2.3% a year).

After rising sharply in August (+2.9%), prices of petroleum products fell 1.7% in September. In one year, oil prices are down 21.2%.The increase in electricity rates in September (+1.1% +1.9% over one year) does not offset the decline in petroleum products. Overall, energy prices decreased by 0.7% (-14.3% yoy).

For the economist Fr?d?rique Cerisier, next month, the trend is upward since the energy prices will weigh more.

Prices up 0.4% in supermarkets after a rise of 0.2% in August, prices of consumer goods increased by 0.4% in septemebre. The decline is sharp since September 2008 when the price increases yoy reached 5%. Excluding fresh food, food down 0.1% in September after rising 0.2% in August. In the linear promotions meats are lowering their prices in September (-0.3% after +0.2% in August).Prices of other food products are stable after a slight increase in August (+0.1%). The drink prices rise slightly in September (+0.1%), after a sharp rise the previous month (+0.6%). Hygiene products and beauty are more expensive with an increase of 0.1%, after rising 0.4% in August 2009.
