Pensions: the Elysee considering an increase of levies
April 9, 2010
The pension reform could be financed by a levy increase. A statement in the entourage of the Elysee yesterday suggests, according to Les Echos on Friday. It would be a levy on a specific population group. The source relayed by the newspaper indicate that "nothing is arrested" and that this idea is "a track among others."
Les Echos stress however that this statement is not neutral, since it came after the consultation with social partners to begin Monday.
No details were given about the nature of such withdrawal. The newspaper Les Echos noted that the idea of taxing wealth has already been used to finance the RSA.He recalled that the Socialist Party and the CFDT union proposed an increase of the CSG, but the union wants it to be dedicated to addiction.
The project oi pension reform is expected to be presented to Cabinet in July, so that Parliament can begin debate in September.
