Orange / T-Mobile, a project pending
February 4, 2010
The merger announced last September between the activities of Orange Mobile and the T-Mobile in the United Kingdom could not overcome the obstacle of the OFT (Office of Fair Trading). The regulator of the sector concerned, in fact, that this fusion impedes competition in the telecommunications sector in Britain, and be detrimental to consumers.
The OFT has asked the European Commission to examine the proposed joint venture between the two operators. If the OFT has no power of decision in the matter, he can give advice and refer the case to the competent authorities, such as the European Union guaranteed approval cash loans . Thus, if the application is accepted, it would ask Brussels to intervene and cancel the connection.
If the proposed combination would lead, it would create the leading sector with 37% market share and reduce the number of four operators: Vodafone, O2, Telefonica and Orange, TMobile.
Orange (France Telecom) and T-Mobile (Deutsche Telekom) had agreed to create a joint venture owned half by the two operators, respectively numbers 3 and 4 of the market in Great Britain.
